Although rarely used as such today, it is the singular form of the word \u201cdata\u201d .<\/p>\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>In today\u2019s real estate world, the most common use of a datum is found in a metes and bounds legal description of a property.<\/p>\n<p>Such a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realestatewords.com\/legal-description\/\">legal description<\/a> might include \u201c&#8230;beginning at the intersection of the eastern boundary of the Columbia River and the southwesterly corner of the State of Oregon\u2026\u201d.
